International Forum of Urban Morphology in Bogotá 2016

Foro Int. Morfologia Urbana FINAL IMPRESION

This academic event that took place on August 8th, 2016, in Bogotá, was organized with the collaboration of the school of architecture of the Pilot University in Bogotá and the school of architecture at the University of Texas at Austin; and funded by the Latin American research grant from the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. The purpose of the event was to debate about the planning crossroad of Bogotá. After 30 years of growth control and densification policies  land within the city limits have become very expensive, causing the social segregation and spatial mismatch to keep growing. These growth patterns have both burdened the transit systems and have hindered the quality of life of the very poor. As response, the current mayor has announced the end of growth limits and a new focus on expansion northwards with high density.

In hope of understanding this current paradigm, the event explored the causes and consequences of historical growth management policies in Bogotá, México and Brazil through the following presentations (In Spanish):
